Ask AI to explain a movie or book that left you puzzled

The University of Miami reports that Dale Moses, 77, a student in a lifelong-learning AI class for people 50+, saw a film she didn't understand at all. She asked ChatGPT to explain it, and then it made sense.

What they did

After the movie, she typed the title into ChatGPT and asked for an explanation of what it was about.

How it went

She says that after reading the explanation, she understood the film. Classmates in the same course described using AI to look up unfamiliar terms and keep learning.

Worth knowing

Chatbots can mix up films with similar titles or invent plot details, so check the year and director match. Ask it to warn you before spoilers if you haven't finished something. Their instructor tells students not to put personal information into a chatbot.

Try it yourself

Copy this into ChatGPT (or any AI assistant). Replace the parts in [brackets] with your own details.

I just watched [movie or book title, year, and director or author, so you pick the right one]. I found it confusing, especially [the part that lost you]. Explain in plain language what happened, what the ending meant, and the main ideas people usually take from it. If you're not sure about a detail, say so instead of guessing. Then give me three questions I could bring up at my book club or with a friend. I've left out names, ID numbers, and account details, and I'll review your answer before I use or share it.
