Send a screenshot when your computer won't cooperate
Author and full-time RVer Charisse Tyson, who calls her ChatGPT "Sparky," says she often snaps a photo or screenshot of a stuck computer screen, sends it to ChatGPT, and follows the fixes step by step—sometimes through five or six screenshots—until the problem is handled.
What they did
When Word or a computer update left her stuck, she photographed or screenshotted exactly what she saw, asked ChatGPT what to try next, showed it the result, and kept going until the issue was fixed. She also used the same photo approach to help a neighbor pick a photo-restoration app from a list on an Apple computer.
How it went
She writes that Google searches don't work as well for this back-and-forth, and that for her ChatGPT is "like having a personal assistant at my beck and call 24/7." She still treats money, legal, and health answers as things to verify, not final authority.
Worth knowing
Screenshots can include email addresses, account numbers, or personal documents—crop those out before you upload. AI can misread menus or suggest outdated steps, so stop if a fix asks you to download unknown software or share a password. When in doubt, ask a trusted person or the device maker's support.
Try it yourself
Copy this into ChatGPT (or any AI assistant). Replace the parts in [brackets] with your own details.
(Attach a cropped screenshot that shows only the error or menu—no account numbers or personal files.) I'm stuck on my [Windows / Mac / phone]. Here's what I see. Tell me the safest next step in plain English, one step at a time, and wait for me to say what happened before you give the next step. If something looks risky, say so.
