Turn your doctor-visit notes into clear next steps

AARP reports that Jennifer Erickson, 56, a caregiver for her husband, takes detailed notes at each appointment and then dictates them into ChatGPT once she's home. She asks it to summarize next steps and who's responsible, and to show where several doctors agree and where they differ.

What they did

After visits that can involve many specialists over a few days, she speaks her notes on test results, procedures, and follow-up instructions into ChatGPT and asks for an organized summary, including the pros and cons of each option the doctors raised.

How it went

She says hours of mental sorting now take a few minutes, and she gets a structured summary she can review and share.

Worth knowing

The summary is only as good as your notes, so check it against the after-visit paperwork or patient portal. Treatment decisions belong with the care team. Use the summary to bring better questions. Leave out names, birth dates, and ID numbers.

Try it yourself

Copy this into ChatGPT (or any AI assistant). Replace the parts in [brackets] with your own details.

Here are my notes from today's appointments for my [relationship], with names, dates of birth, and ID numbers removed: [paste or dictate notes]. Organize them into: (1) what each clinician said, (2) where they agree and where they differ, (3) next steps with who is responsible and by when, and (4) questions I still need to ask. Only use what's in my notes; mark anything unclear instead of filling it in. Don't recommend a treatment.
